Police Ask JP Residents to Report Excessive Summer Noise
Those found to be in violation of the city ordinance could face fines and other penalties.
With the summer in full swing, police in the area are asking the public to help them shut down egregious noise violators in the neighborhood.
The Boston Police E-13 (Jamaica Plain) District sent an email notification Monday morning asking neighbors to report instances of noise pollution.
“During the summer, there is an increase in noise pollution in our neighborhoods. Therefore, we urge you to ask your tenants to report all loud parties by calling (617) 343-5500 or 911 for all noise complaints,” according to the note, sent by Officer Carlos Lara at the E-13 Community Service office.

Boston’s noise ordinance defines “unreasonable noise” as noise measured in excess of 50 decibels between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., and 70 decibels during all other hours or, the more commonly invoked specification which says a violation is “any noise plainly audible at a distance of 300 feet or, in the case of loud amplification devices or similar equipment, noise plainly audible at a distance of 100 feet from its source by a person of normal hearing.”
