Off-Duty Cop Collars Teens for Armed Robbery

A police officer driving in the 200-block of Centre saw three teens surrounding another teen. She slowed down to investigate.

The vigilance of an off-duty police officer led to the arrest of three teens for armed robbery on Tuesday.

Boston Police report that at 1:12 p.m. on Tuesday the officer was driving in her own car in the 200-block of Centre when she saw a group of three teens surrounding another teen.

She slowed down and saw one teen reach into the surrounded teen's pocket and then go inside the Heath Street housing development.

The officer approached the victim, who said he'd been robbed of an iPod. One of the suspects had motioned like he had a gun, the victim told the officer.

The officer told police dispatchers about the incident and another officer working a detail nearby recognized a suspect from the broadcast description. The officer knew the address of the suspect.

More police were called in. They went to the address and a woman answered the door. Officers asked for the suspect, who was in another room with two teenage girls.

The victim identified these three as the ones who had robbed him. Police arrested the three of them, a 13-year-old boy, a 12-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl, charging them with armed robbery. All three live in JP. Their names are withheld because they are juveniles.
