JP Man Found Not Guilty of Cocaine Trafficking After Supreme Court Tossed Earlier Conviction

Luis Menedez-Diaz got a new trial because of a ruling that defendants have a constitutional right to cross-examine forensic experts.

Jurors found a Jamaica Plain man not guilty of cocaine trafficking today in a retrial made possible by a U.S. Supreme Court ruling, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said.

Luis Melendez-Diaz, 32, had his previous conviction overturned by a 2009 Supreme Court ruling that the Sixth Amendement gives defendants the right to cross-examine those who give forensic evidence, according to the Globe.

The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in overturning Melendez-Diaz' conviction.
