A new police captain has arrived in Jamaica Plain.

Capt. Alfredo Andres took over for former Capt. Paul Russell earlier this year at the District E-13 station on Washington Street, according to the Jamaica Plain Gazette.

Andres previously served as an MBTA police officer from 1993-1995, after which he entered the Boston Police Academy. He was named sergeant in 2004 and lieutenant in 2006, at which time he was assigned to Dorchester's District C-11 police station, according to the Gazette.

Andres, 47, who grew up in Jamaica Plain, traveled to the United States with his parents in 1971 from the province of Oriente, Cuba, according to the report.
