Is Crime on an Upswing in Jamaica Plain?

Several incidents of crime led up to Sunday night's fatal shooting and a bank robbery in the middle of the afternoon school pickup April 1.

Two major crimes committed inside Jamaica Plain’s borders shocked the community April 1. These crimes come on the heels of a string of gunpoint robberies Pondside, a mugging on the Jamaica Way and series of overnight break-ins last week.

Police say an upswing in criminal activity is typical as the weather warms, but these events began while the weather was still frigid. Also, statistics presented by police at a Monday night meeting say the trend is the opposite compared to the same period during the previous year.
