A commenter on a Boston Herald article about the death claims to be an older sibling of the victim:

This young man was my little brother Mariano Jr Malave. We just had a birthday party for him on Sunday April 22nd. He attended ITT Technical Institute and worked at Home Depot in Avon MA. Mariano got his life on track, he was actually loving life again and now he has been taken from us through a senseless crime.
