Human Error Cause of E Line Collision

Two trains collided near Brigham Circle. Buses have replaced Green Line trains from Northeastern to Heath Street.

Two “E” Green Line trains collided on Huntington Avenue near the Brigham Circle stop at around 4 p.m. Monday. One train derailed.

Boston EMS treated three people with minor injuries, according to their official Twitter feed.

“At about 4 p.m., an inbound train started moving over to the outbound track and struck outbound train,” MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said. “Human error was the cause because the switch on the track was in the incorrect position. If it were in the proper position, the inbound train would have headed on to Longwood Medical.”

The train crossed over to the outbound track had no passengers on board. There were roughly 12 people on board the outbound train. Two passengers and a driver reported back and neck pain.

Service is suspended for the rest of Monday night. Shuttle buses will replace normal service between the Northeastern University and Heath Street stops. The MBTA is asking people to check the MBTA website for E Line service updates as they are not certain if service will return for Tuesday's commute.
