UPDATE: 8:46 a.m. - Fire Department reports the situation is under control at the river. We'll have an update for you as soon as we can speak with Deputy Chief Michael O'Brien. Emergency Management Director Justin Kates says that the NH Department of Environmental Services was notified as a precaution, but tcharacterized the leak as a "small amount" of oil.
Original story begins: 8:36 a.m.: Nashua Fire Department's HAZMAT crew is working to contain an oil leak into the Nashua River, located along Water Street.
"The oil is coming out through a culvert, so they're still trying to figure out where it's coming from. That's the question of the moment," said Nashua Director of Emergency Management Justin Kates. "I do know Public Works has sent crews down there to try and figure out source of oil."
He said Nashua Fire Department was first on the scene, and is leading the effort.
Stay tuned to Nashua Patch for updates on this story.
