Gas Line Break on Day Street Forces Building Evacuation

Construction workers disrupted a gas pipe at 67 Day St., fire officials confirm.

Fire officials say construction workers caused a gas pipe leak at 67 Day St. The residence has been evacuated, according to Steve MacDonald of the Boston Fire Department.

"Gas main hit outside my apartment on Day st in JP," Tweeted a resident who uses the handle Smacthy. "So many firefighters and national grid people."

Fire and utility officials are still investigating, MacDonald said, but there are no injuries and the situation is under control. It took place at 3:34 p.m.
