Firefighter Arrested in JP a No Show in Court

Stephen Hogan was arraigned on a possession of heroin charge did not appear at his arraignment in Roxbury District Court Thursday.

A firefighter arrested in Jamaica Plain and charged with possession of heroin did not show up to his arraignment Thursday morning, prompting a judge to find him in default.

Boston firefighter Stephen Hogan, 24, was arrested Feb. 26 in the area of Columbus Avenue and Bray Street after police saw him enter a vehicle and emerge with a bag of heroin in his hand, according to a Boston Police blog post.

Hogan was scheduled to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court Thursday morning, but his lawyer, Liam Scully, appeared on his behalf, according to Jake Wark, spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

Scully said Hogan had checked into an in-patient drug detox facility and asked that the proceedings continue at a later date.

Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Riley objected and asked that the court find Hogan in default, which Roxbury District Court Judge Kenneth Fiandaca did.

Fiandaca said he would not issue a warrant, however, until March 8, when the case will be back in court, according to Wark.
