Police have issued citations for speeding and reckless driving to man behind the wheel of an Acura Integra that knocked over a light pole and flipped a Ford Bronco in the heart of Hyde Square Monday morning.
The driver, who wasn't named in the police report, plowed into a street light at Centre and Sheridan about 1 a.m. The car also collided with two parked vehicles. One of them, a Ford Bronco, was knocked on its side and nearly into the adjacent building.
The pole and truck came to a rest at a front door right beside Fat Ram's Pumpkin Tattoo. The damage can be seen in the incredible photos residents have posted to JP Patch.
It's clear the damage to the recently-moved tattoo parlor could have been much worse.
"That Bronco died to save our shop," said David, who answered the phone at Fat Ram's. He preferred not to give his last name. The damage was to the door just to the left of Fat Ram's as you look out the shop to the street.
Firefighters had to use the "Jaws of Life" to extract the driver, police and fire officials said. He was taken to Brigham & Women's Hospital with lacerations to his head and a possible neck injury.
Police went to the hospital to issue the man citations for speeding, operating at a speed greater than reasonable and proper as well as reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Police say they aren't done investigating.
Boston Fire reports the incident happened at 12:57 a.m. Monday.
