District Attorney: JP Man Flees Cops, Tosses Loaded Handgun Away

Kristopher Jordan, 24, allegedly ran away from cops on a routine patrol. Along his path of flight, police found a loaded .380 caliber Beretta with the serial number obliterated.

A Jamaica Plain man who led police on a foot chase allegedly told officers he needed an unlicensed, loaded handgun "for protection." The weapon had its serial number obliterated.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney, police approached Kristopher Jordan, 24, of JP as he and another man stood on the steps of 500 Blue Hill Ave. in Dorchester beneath a "no trespassing" sign on Saturday morning about 2:20 a.m.

Beat cops, recognizing the men weren't known to them as residents of the building, asked them what they were doing. The men said they were waiting for someone named "Josh" but police said they were allegedly acting nervous and backing away. When police started to arrest them on trespassing charges, Jordan ran away. The other man, Stephen Solomon, 23, of Everett, stayed put and was placed in handcuffs.

Officers chased Jordan. An officer behind him said he saw Jordan reach into his waist band and "heard a sound as if something metallic hit the ground."

After officers caught Jordan, they scanned the area with a thermal imaging device and found a .380 caliber Beretta still warm from, police say, the heat of being close to someone's body. The weapon had eight rounds in it.

Prosecutors have used similar thermal evidence in other cases to link firearms to suspects. The thermal evidence, prosecutors say, can show that the gun in question isn't an unrelated gun that happened to be lying around nearby.

Jordan was arraigned Monday in Dorchester District Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm, and trespassing. He was held without bail by Judge James Coffey for allegedly breaking his parole on an earlier trespassing case.
