Community to Discuss Gun Violence in JP

Municipal, educational and religious leaders will host a discussion on gun laws and reducing gun violence this week.

Jamaica Plain and the Greater Boston community will come together this week to discuss ways to reduce area gun violence.

Advocates for Safe and Sound Gun Laws – a member of  the MA Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence along with the Jamaica Plain Forum are sponsoring the event, which will take place June 13 from 7 to 8:45 p.m. at

Director of the Harvard Injury Control Research Center David Hemenway, Jake Sullivan of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, First Church Rev. Terry Burke and board members of Citizens for Safety will lead the talk. The event, “A Community Dialogue on Safe and Sound Gun Laws,” is open to the public.

In 2013, there has been one gun-related death in Jamaica Plain and another that occurred on the outskirts of the neighborhood near Egleston Square.
