Charge Dropped Against Man at Forest Hills T Alleged to Have Been an Unregistered Sex Offender

Authorities say the man turned out not to have a warrant against him for failure to register as a sex offender.

Authorities have dropped charges against a man Transit Police arrested on grounds that he was an unregistered sex offender.

The Lowell man had attracted the attention of a fellow rider on Tuesday by taking photographs of kids on a train. While it isn't illegal to take photos in public on the T, police investigated.

Police say the man turned out to be a Lowell resident whom they arrested for being an unregistered sex offender.

But it turns out the man did not have a warrant out for that crime, according to the Herald. The T's top cop, Police Superintendent-in-Chief Joseph O’Connor called the arrest "appropriate." He told the Herald his officers had "sufficient probable cause to arrest him."

As of Thursday morning, the blog at the Transit Police had not updated their post with the fact that the charge has been dropped.
