The City of Boston unveiled a new "Adopt-a-Hydrant" program to keep fire hydrants clear of snow.
Residents can go online to the City's Adopt-a-Hydrant site, pick an un-adopted hydrant to take responsibility for clearing the snow off of, and even name that hydrant. One JP resident, "Carter" has adopted a Castleton Street hydrant — and dubbed it "The Dude."
This program was created to help the Boston Fire Department, which is still responsible for the city's hydrants.
There are plenty of hydrants up for adoption, as you can see from the interactive map at the Adopt-A-Hydrant site.
