Bicyclist Bitten by Dog in Arnold Arboretum

The following article is based on a Boston Police Department report.

A bicyclist riding through the Arnold Arboretum was bitten by an unleashed dog, leaving the man bleeding from his left ankle.

Boston Police met at Bussey and Walter streets with the victim around 12:54 p.m. on Jan. 21, and observed the man's ankle was bleeding, according to a Boston Police report. The man said while riding through the Arnold Arboretum a medium-sized brown dog bit his ankle. He said the dog was not leashed.

The victim said the dog's owner said, "The dog just nipped you, it didn't break skin." The owner gave the victim her phone number and then both left the area, according to a Boston Police report.

The victim declined medical attention, but he was advised to seek medical treatment at a local hospital. Boston Police left a message on the dog owner's voicemail for her to contact the police.

pretty darn thoughtless comment from dog owner I'd say - instead of apology and inquiry about victim's well-being!!

Ban mutts from the Arboretum.

It is a shame that a few irresponsible pet owners can cause such a bad name for the rest. Banning dogs from the Arboretum would decrease the foot traffic so much, visitors would likely feel unsafe. Dogs and dog walkers/owners are out most of the time and I guarantee make urban open spaces a safer place.
