9/11 VIDEO: "We All Had Hopes We Were Going to Find People"

On Sept. 11, 2001, JP firefighter Pat Nichols traveled to Ground Zero. He looks back on a week of searching the rubble as a defining moment for him.

Emmet "Pat" Nichols is a commander at and a member of FEMA's Urban Search and Rescue Team -- a sort of National Guard service for emergency responders. Hours after the planes struck the Twin Towers, Nichols and the rest of his rescue team were deployed to Ground Zero. He spent a long week there, searching the rubble for survivors. Ten years later, he reflected on how the experience changed his relationship with his job and with his family.
