Cathedral High School - Your Foundation for Life

Cathedral High School develops a foundation for life by challenging our students in the classroom, supporting their personal interests in extra-curricular or athletic activities, providing internship opportunities, instilling a life-long commitment to service, and teaching values.  Through this foundation Cathedral students have the intellectual and spiritual strength to achieve academically, as well as to succeed in life. The school occupies a unique position in the city of Boston and is the only college preparatory high school of its kind in New England because we primarily serve an urban student population.

As such, we play an important role in the future of many young men and women. Cathedral was founded in 1926 to educate the children of immigrants and first generation Americans living in and around the South End. Cathedral has provided educational opportunities to successive generations of Boston youth for eighty-seven years, by preserving a safe and structured learning environment.

Our Parents and students acknowledge and appreciate that the most significant strength of Cathedral is our faculty. They are tirelessly devoted to ensuring each student receives personal attention and support. Our teachers motivate each student to advance to higher levels of proficiency and to help them to discover their capabilities and talents. Cathedral works with families to ensure the best educational experience for their children. Our administrators, coaches, faculty, and staff collaborate in supporting the goals, needs, and accomplishments of each of our young men and women.

Our students say that our Guidance Office and Planning Center are the best examples of the unyielding support they receive at Cathedral High School. Our Tutors for All program is an extended learning time program that provides additional individualized tutoring and development in math and language arts to all seventh, eighth and ninth grade students. These resources, combined with our full-time nurse, full-time social worker, food services and social activities, come together to provide each student with a vast and loving support system.

Private philanthropy keeps tuition affordable through the support of our Board of Trustees, alumni, and our many corporate and foundation partners. Their generosity allows our families to work with us to sustain a community of achievement, to inspire character-building, and to encourage mutual acceptance. These philanthropic relationships have fostered distinctive and innovative programs that support our students.

The freshman class participates in the Sean McDonough Summer Program, one the best transition program for high school students in the area.  Our students also have the opportunity to participate in paid internship programs sponsored by the law firm of WilmerHale, Fidelity Investments, and Tufts Medical. Additionally, they receive mentoring and support from these partners to help with career advice, life paths, and they also receive support for college essays and applications.

We mentor, nurture, and unconditionally love each student. As a Catholic school, Cathedral teaches Christian values to every student and instills the integrity to live them at all times. Cathedral students are young men and women of varied backgrounds, cultures, interests, and talents, who mutually accept each other and embrace their diversity.  We foster a special community that is shaped by shared experiences, formed by Christian values, and united by faith in each other’s ability to better the world.

Cathedral has one of the best college acceptance rates in Boston. Our graduates are prepared to achieve in college because their foundation was built with focus, perseverance, integrity, and resilience. In 2011, Cathedral was the only Catholic School to have a Gates Millennium Scholar in the state. For the ninth straight year, Cathedral High School is proud to announce that our graduating class received a 100% college acceptance rate.  These young men and women of Class of 2013 earned nearly $2 million in college aid and scholarships, highlighted by the school’s first Posse Scholarship Recipient in ten years. Assumption College, Bentley University, Boston College, Suffolk University, and Regis College are just a few examples of the prestigious institutions that our recent graduates will attend this fall.

Belong to something special and visit Cathedral High School for our Open House from 1:00-3:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 20. You can also contact the Admissions Office at (617) 542-2325 ext. 312 to inquire about our Shadow A Panther Program.
