WALCZAK REITERATES SUPPORT FOR REBUILDING CASEY OVERPASS IN JAMAICA PLAIN; SAYS PUBLIC PROCESS WAS FLAWED
BOSTON - Bill Walczak, candidate for mayor of Boston, today reiterated his support for keeping the Monsignor William J. Casey Overpass in Jamaica Plain. The Casey Overpass issue is one of the divisive issues in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood after local and state officials moved to demolish the roadway and create an at-grade thoroughfare, which connects the Arborway to Rt. 203, after what many call a flawed public process.

“I want to reiterate my support for keeping an overpass in Jamaica Plain,” said Walczak. “While I support tearing down some bridges – this is not one of them. I believe an at-grade roadway will cause greater congestion in the Forest Hills section of Jamaica Plain and hurt small businesses on Centre St., Washington St., and Hyde Park Ave, and I don’t believe the public was truly heard during the determination process. As mayor, I commit to working with MassDOT to ensure the rebuilding of the overpass.
