Dog Runs for Help for Owner, Gets Treated for Injuries in JP

A loyal beagle ran to get help for her owner, then refused to leave his side ... even though she was injured.

After a man and his dog were injured while hit by a car in Dorchester, the dog still headed for help, according to this story by the Boston Globe. John Miles' dog Lucy, an eight-year-old beagle mix, reportedly ran to a dentist's office to bark for help before running back to her owner's car.

She refused to leave his side even as EMTs put Miles into an ambulance, said the Globe.

Miles had two broken legs, a broken arm and facial fractures, and Lucy's ligament in her right rear leg was torn. Lucy was treated at MSPCA's Angell Animal Medical Center in Jamaica Plain. Authorities had tracked down info on Lucy's tag, and the dog was brought to the MSPCA by Miles' daughter-in-law.
