What's Going on Inside Eliot Hall?

Maybe you've walked past Eliot Hall (located on 7A Eliot Street near the monument) and wondered...what goes on there?

Welcome to my first post. This blog will cover news and items of interest from a Jamaica Plain resource: The Footlight Club Community Theater.

Maybe you've walked past Eliot Hall (located on 7A Eliot Street near the monument) and wondered...what goes on there?  The answer is: a lot of amazing community theater, run entirely by volunteers of The Footlight Club (FLC).

The FLC members begin planning for each season a year or more in advance, selecting plays together and then moving on to all the details required for putting up a show: scheduling, budgeting, casting, designing the set, arranging the lighting, choosing the sound effects, finding the props, making the costumes, rehearsing, selling the tickets, promoting the shows, ushering, cleaning, selling refreshements...all of these jobs and more must be covered in order to bring a show to the stage.

In future blog posts I will detail aspects of the theater's work that may be of interest to the Jamaica Plain community.

You can get a glimpse of some of the hard work going on at Eliot Hall when opens tonight. Absurd Person Singular is a dark comedy about three couples on the Christmas Eves of three successive years. Written by Alan Ayckbourn, “Absurd Person Singular” reveals numerous behind-the-scenes Christmas party disasters as the story unfolds for three very different households. The show runs through Feb. 18.
