Volunteer to Judge with Boston Debate League
The Boston Debate League (BDL) is a non-profit organization that has introduced competitive policy debate in to the Boston Public School system. The BDL runs nine tournaments a year for more than 600 BPS students from 21 middle and high schools. More than 350 volunteers serve as volunteer judges and provide essential help to the After-School Debate League.
Judging is a on-of-a-kind opportunity that represents the Boston Debate League's greatest volunteer need. No experience is necessary. We will train you in a short session right before the tournament you attend or we can come to your office and train you and your co-workers. As a judge, you will be asked to listen to debaters, take notes, offer encouragement, and determine a winner. If you are fluent in Spanish, you also have the opportunity to judge for the new Spanish divisions. Students will debate in Spanish and you will be asked to provide feedback in Spanish. Students eagerly anticipate and welcome judge feedback because they know it helps them become better debaters.
Consider donating a few hours of your time to volunteer Friday afternoon from 4-8, Saturday morning from 8-12, or Saturday afternoon from 12:30-6. Food is provided. Sign up today at www.bostondebate.org/signup.
