Sunday Song: Concordia Consort, Eileen Callahan in "Back to the Future"

Sunday Song presents Concordia Consort's newest program, “Back to the Future —
The other side of Early Music” on Sunday, November 24 at 3 PM at First
Baptist Church, 633 Centre Street in Jamaica Plain.

Guest soprano Eileen Cecelia Callahan is featured in this program of songs and instrumental works spanning the Classical era to the 20th century. Ms. Callahan will sing a desperate aria by Beethoven, songs of love by Mendelssohn, Schumann, Brahms and Grieg, and broken-hearted lament by Ravel accompanied by recorder consort.

The instrumental ensemble, directed by Sheila Beardslee, will perform quartets, trios and fugues by Mozart and Haydn, Mendelssohn and Chopin, Brahms and Tchaikovsky, ending in the 20th century with Shostakovich, Reger — and  finally — a piece actually written for recorders by Paul Leenhouts.

Ms. Beardslee notes “This has been a joy to learn that this later, really ‘modern’ music works so well on recorders. It has certainly broadened our horizons to embrace this unusual repertoire for our instruments. Please join us on this wonderful path of discovery!

Admission to the concert is by suggested donation of $10.  Directions to First Baptist Church in Jamaica Plain can be found here  http://www.firstbaptistjp.org/site/cpage.asp?cpage_id=180030442&sec_id=180010206.
