Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

On MLK Day, SCI will host a volunteer woodland restoration event in Franklin Park followed by a historic walk and reflection session on Martin Luther King Jr and service.  SCI is pleased to have received the funding for this opportunity through the Massachusetts Service Alliance's 2014 MLK Day Grant.

Through the collaboration of SCI’s host partner sites, the Franklin Park Coalition will join DotWell and the Millennium Ten Initiative to host a service day on January 20, 2014 to honor Martin Luther King Jr.

Volunteer Focus: Removal of cat briar (a prickly vine that strangles trees) and trash removal from Franklin Park.  The project will begin with a brief introduction to the park, woodland restoration and Martin Luther King Jr.’s focus on community and the importance of service.
