5th Annual Fall Greening the School Conference

Massachusetts Agriculture in the Classroom is sponsoring a Statewide Conference for educators on Saturday November 9th at The Clay Science Center of the Dexter and Southfield Schools in Brookline, Massachusetts from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.   The school borders Allandale Farm and there will be an opportunity to visit the farm following the conference.  We thank Chipotle Mexican Grill for their generosity in sponsoring this conference and providing lunch. Whole Foods Markets and the Massachusetts Department of Agriculturealso provided sponsorship support. The theme of the fall conference is “Greening the School.” All workshops will focus on composting and healthy soils, gardening at the school, taking the garden into the classroom, nutrition and local foods and natural resource conservation and other green initiatives. Four workshop sessions with a choice of five workshops in each session will be held throughout the day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.   Speakers, panels and activities will emphasize hands-on activities for the classroom. Participants may also choose to tour nearby Allandale Farm or the solar panels, wind turbine and planetarium at Clay Center. Don’t miss this day of discussion, interaction and opportunities for exploring new ideas for your Massachusetts classroom. The $50 fee includes all workshops; workshop materials; breakfast snack and lunch, and 10 professional development points for those who attend the full day and conference, carry out a related classroom activity, and send in a brief report of their experience.  Registration Scholarships are available for teachers from urban schools, those who are new to teaching, within the past five year and farm educators thanks to a grant from Northeast Farm Credit Ag Enhancement.
