Walsh Eked Out Win in Jamaica Plain

Marty Walsh will be the new mayor of Boston, beating John Connolly by a slim margin in Boston and the JP neighborhood.

Much like the result of the citywide election, Rep. Marty Walsh won in Jamaica Plain by slim margin.

In Jamaica Plain – represented by 19 voter precincts – Walsh received 5,876 votes to City Councilor John Connolly’s 5,641, a difference of 226 votes, according to figures supplied by the Boston Election Department.

Ward 10: Precincts 6, 7 and 9

Ward 11: Precincts 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10

Ward 19: Precincts 1 – 9 and 12

Of these voter precincts, Walsh, from Dorchester, had the most votes in 10 precincts to Connolly’s nine. Connolly, from West Roxbury, did win eight of the 10 precincts in Ward 19, which geographically consists of most of Jamaica Plain.

Walsh won 51.55 percent of the overall Boston vote, with Connolly taking 48.06 percent. There are 255 total voter precincts in Boston.
