I-93 Overnight Closure Coming Up

Northbound traffic will be detoured off of the highway beginning at 11 p.m. July 16.

Maintenance on Interstate 93 will require transportation officials to close the expressway through Boston on certain Tuesdays this summer.

On Tuesday, July 16 beginning at 11 p.m., Interstate 93 northbound traffic will be detoured off of the expressway at Exit 16, Southampton Street and directed along surface streets. The detour will allow traffic to re-enter I-93 NB at the Haymarket on-ramp. Traffic destined for Route 1 Northbound (Tobin Bridge) should stay on the surface streets and access the Route 1 NB on-ramp in City Square, according to a MassDOT press statement.

Maintenance crews, contractors, along with State and Boston Police will begin set-up for the closure on Tuesday evening at 11pm. The full closure will begin at midnight on Wednesday and last until 5am Wednesday morning. Work to be performed July 16 to 17 includes: tunnel wall and sign washing, drain clearing and maintenance, as well as maintenance of electrical and communications systems.

For both the southbound and northbound closures on alternated weeks this summer maintenance crews, contractors and State and Boston Police will begin set-up for the closure on Tuesday evening at 11 p.m. The full closure will begin at midnight on Tuesday and last until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.
