I didn't know that most soil in JP is contaminated with lead - and I've been living here for 6+ years. Thankfully I limit my planting activities to dought-resistant flowers but I'd love to see this factoid exposed in further detail. Point is there are a lot of recent arrivals in our community and stuff like this needs to be brought to light.

There are usually high levels of lead in the soil surrounding older homes that have been painted with lead paint. Busy urban areas also have higher levels of soil lead from auto-emissions. JP, unfortunately, has both of these conditions in spades. http://www.extension.umn.edu/distribution/horticulture/DG2543.html
