Equipment Failure Caused JP Power Outage

About 850 Jamaica Plain residents lost power Sunday.

Underground equipment failure was the cause of a power outage that affected over 2 percent of Jamaica Plain residents Sunday.

Boston.com reports 850 people lost power beginning at 5:50 a.m. due to equipment that failed underground due to the weather. Power was restored the community by about 10 p.m. Sunday night.

The outage was lengthy because NStar crews had to first find the location of the underground outage, according to Boston.com. Snow and water then had to be removed before the work could start.

The power outage was relatively small but widespread in the community. Residents at “Forest Hills T, Curtis Hall/Library, Brewery, Jamaica Pond, Jackson Sq T, Hyde Sq, Green St T, Hunnewell Bldg.” were without power, according to a tweet from Liam Sullivan (@othemts). Centre Street residents experienced outages as well.

Rain and the snow fell in Boston yesterday, but only accumulated up to less than one inch.
