CONTEST: Milky Way Takes Lead For "Best Music Venue" in Jamaica Plain

When you want to hear live music here in the neighborhood, where do you go?

This week's "Best Of Patch Readers' Choice" asks "What's the Best Music Venue in JP?"

Now at first thought you might think this is a contest between the and the . But while those are arguably the neighborhood's most visible venues, there are lots of other places to hear live music. The JP Patch calendar is chock full of them.

Here's how it works. Vote in the poll below. Add comments supporting your decision. Rate the venues involved. Votes and ratings decide the winner, with ties broken by most favorable comments.

The poll closes at 9 a.m. Friday. Because this poll isn't scientific, it isn't the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor (that's me, ), based on poll results, comments on this story and ratings on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey. The official rules are attached to this post as a PDF.

And now, the nominees, along with links to their Patch Places pages:

The winner gets bragging rights and a framed certificate from Patch. And no matter who wins, I hope the discussion of the topic is informative — maybe you'll find a venue you didn't know about or get a tip from neighbors that tells you something you didn't know about an old favorite.

A clarification, the Loring-Greenough House does not itself present concerts, rather the prime concert presenters are the Jamaica Plain Tuesday Club (mainly Sunday afternoons), notloB Parlour Concerts (approximately 80 concerts since 2007 - https://sites.google.com/site/notlobmusic/) and a handfull of others. See the concert schedule at http://loring-greenough.org/category/events/

"Jim Hurst is one of the most versatile and tasteful guitar players I know. Whether he's flailing the rhythm for an old time fiddle tune, laying down a funky groove, or finger picking a beautiful ballad, his playing is both impeccable and creative. Accompanying this instrumental virtuosity is a rich and expressive voice with a surprising range." Mark Schatz More info: http://www.jimhurst.com/ & https://sites.google.com/site/notlobmusic/
