Whole Foods To Offer Free Charlestown Shuttle

The complimentary Thursday and Saturday service will begin Nov. 21.

While Charlestown residents have been busy working on ways to get their neighbors to a grocery store once Johnnie’s Foodmaster closes on Nov. 19, the company taking over the Thompson Square store has put together its own solution to the problem.

Whole Foods Market, which in late October confirmed its purchase of six Foodmaster stores in the Boston area, sent out a press release Friday announcing a new complimentary shuttle service for residents in the Charlestown and North End communities.

“The complimentary shuttle will take shoppers to the closest open Whole Foods Market location, in Beacon Hill, while its Charlestown store is undergoing renovations,” the press release stated. “Whole Foods Market has arranged this free shuttle service from Bunker Hill Mall and three North End locations, to the Charles River Plaza store, twice weekly.”

The Whole Foods shuttle will begin running on Wednesday, Nov. 21—the day before Thanksgiving—and again on Saturday, Nov. 24. After that, a regular schedule will start up, with three trips offered on Thursdays and two on Saturdays.

Each trip will run 90 minutes, including about half an hour of roundtrip travel time and an hour for shopping, according to the press release.

The Thompson Square store will be closing for renovations next week and is set to reopen sometime in 2013.

Below is a the complete schedule for Wednesday, Nov. 21 and Thursdays and Saturdays thereafter:

This is a fine gesture by Whole Foods on behalf of the Charlestown community, but how are folks who are on a limited income going to get to less expensive grocery stores?

You can make meatloaf and mashed potatoes out of ingredients from Whole Foods. Once again we run into the myth that Whole Foods has nothing that we can find in Johnnies. And everything in the meal you listed sounds awesome except for the Cadillac.

Need a Federal Subsidy to afford Whole Foods and I'm NOT talking about EBT, more like The Reinvestment Act.
