New Winter Farmers' Market Starts Tomorrow in Newton

The market will be held at the Hyde Community Center in Newton Highlands.

Have you been missing out on the fresh produce and local goods found at the Newton Farmers' Market? Well, you won't have to go without it for much longer.

Starting tomorrow, Nov. 13, Newton's new winter farmers' market hold its grand opening at the Hyde Community Center in Newton Highlands. The market will be open Tuesdays through June from 1:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.

The winter market is an extension of the summer/fall markets in Newton, which take place on Tuesdays at Cold Spring Park and on Fridays at American Legion Post 440.

Earlier this fall, Market Manager Judy Dore said she had signed up local merchants to sell fresh fish, beef, turkey, jams and jellies, cheese, maple syrup, coffee and dog treats.

Dore also had a couple of local farmers willing to provide winter vegetables. Those who are interested in setting up a table at the market can email Dore at jdore@newtonma.gov.

I've discovered, through a friend who had signed up to sell baked goods at the winter market, but has been told she cannot, that there will be no bakers allowed because of an agreement with a local bakery in the Highlands. If this is true, it it disturbing.

Thanks for the tip LJ, really interesting. I'm hoping to find out more!
