Jamaica Plain Businesses Recognized in ‘Dig This Awards 2014’

Several Jamaica Plain-based small businesses received some recognition this week for their unique services and attraction to customers. 

The businesses were all listed as part of Dig Boston's "Dig This Awards 2014," which highlights the best of Boston’s’ restaurants, bars, barbershops, provisions stores and arts and entertainment in the area. The "winners" aren't ranked in any particular order, and are voted on by readers.

The awards were compiled into four categories: Eats & Drinks, Goods & Services, Arts & Entertainment and Editor's Picks. 

Three Jamaica Plain businesses were listed among the Goods & Services awards and one for Editor's Picks. See which ones below, along with what Dig Boston had to say about each. 

Salmagundi (Hats)

What Dig Boston Said: 

"Somehow, even after years by the J.P. Monument, Salmagundi continues to evolve, not just with contemporary and traditional dome pieces, but also with other fresh accessories that help the more couture hipsters among us shine. As for those hats, though, it’s best to just bow down. The selection is that ill."

Bikes Not Bombs (Bike Shop)

What Dig Boston Said: 

"For many years, Boston had been rated the worst cycling city in a number of shimmering publications that can suck our spokes for all we care. These guys have been turning that around for a while. Not only are they a solid refurbished bike shop, but they also create a wealth of community-building programs and seminars. Seminars, people."

Boomerangs (Thrift Store)

What Dig Boston Said: 

"Considering their inventory is whatever people happen to randomly donate, it’s strange to rate thrift stores against one another. Unless, of course, you consider the fact that Boomerangs is a neighborhood institution, an employer of struggling and working artists, and all for supporting and emboldening philanthropic causes (AIDS Action). Give ‘em a hug or something."
