Everyone knows they’ve got the best chocolate croissants in town (and yes, they’re THAT good.) But bangs out a bunch of other legendary pastries as well, and, depending what day and time you stop by, you’ll may find sweet and savory scones, thick oatmeal cookies, mini goat cheese and fresh herb quiches, coconut macaroons, butter and bread pudding muffins, olive rolls, lemon shortbread cookies and apple brown butter almond galettes. And they might also be the only spot in Boston to get a cork-shaped tappo (the Italian word for cork, of course)—a chocolate-y, mini, cakey thing—crisp on the outside and moist and almost chewy on the inside. It’s been said that some people can—and do—eat them by the fistful.
Canto brews Equal Exchange coffee, and a dozen or so sandwiches come on bread from beloved in Brookline—don’t miss the aptly-named “Green Street” sandwich with black forest ham, creamy brie, house-made apple butter, spinach, and grain mustard (which you can also get on a buttery plain croissant.)
Vegan bites are available (this is JP, after all), as are seasonal whole pies and quiches.
