Big Development at Washington and McBride in Jamaica Plain is "At a Standstill"

A major retail, storage and residential plan for the area of Washington and McBride streets has collapsed, according to the city's Redevelopment Authority.

Dreams of renewal along the Washington Street corridor have been put on ice.

An ambitious plan for a major retail, storage and residential transformation of the area at Washington and McBride is "at a standstill," according to the city's Redevelopment Authority.

"It's something between the developer and the landowners," said John FitzGerald, project manager with the authority. "Sometimes that's the way things work out."

The Flanagan and Seaton property would have become a complex with a four-story storage facility and a 22,000-square-foot retail building with two stories. Housing of 42 residential units would also have been part of the plan.

The developers, SSG Development, did not return several Patch phone calls.

In December, the Gazette reported the developers and neighbors were in a dispute over how much parking there would be and how friendly the design would be for pedestrians and bicyclists.
