Officials Exhume DeSalvo's Body

By Bret Silverberg

The exhumation of confessed Boston Strangler Albert DeSalvo has begun.

Officials began to dig at the grave site at Puritan Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Peabody during the 2 o'clock hour.

DeSalvo's remains are being exhumed so that investigators can extract a fresh sample in attempt to match his DNA with a sample found on a water bottle of a DeSalvo family member. This week, Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley announced that investigators were able to match a DNA sample found on Mary Sullivan, the final victim in the Boston Strangler murders of the early 1960s, to the sample taken from the water bottle.
