Nirvana Played JP's Green Street Station Club in 1989

Before they were music legends, Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic played a small JP show in 1989 in support of the band's first record, "Bleach."

Before Nirvana achieved mass popularity after the release of 1991’s “Nevermind,” it was a fledgling Seattle rock band touring in support of a little known record “Bleach” released June 15, 1989.

Tuesday afternoon, kurdt kobain (@kcobaindaily) tweeted links to a few photos from a show one month after the release of "Bleach," live from Green Street Station, a club in Jamaica Plain.

It so happens the full audio from this show is available on Youtube.

At this phase of Nirvana's career, Kurt Cobain was the singer, Krist Novoselic played bass, but the drummer was not Dave Grohl. Instead, it was Chad Channing, who left Nirvana when the band began to record "Nevermind" in 1990.

Here's more on the history of the show, from @kcobaindaily:

'Cheater Slicks' & 'Death Of Samantha' also performed that night. Kurt didn't play guitar because he had broke his guitar the night before & didn't have a replacement. He let Jason do all of the guitar playing. Stacey Egan took some photos from the gig.

The audio is not great by today’s standards but it’s a very cool 33-minute-34-second listen for Nirvana fans or fans of the Grunge era.

(Disclaimer: Though it’s difficult to make out any of the lyrics in the recording, some may not be suitable for all audiences.)
