Doyle's Hosts Betrayal-Based Story Slam Sunday

Massmouth's next story slam will be in JP, and it has a decided anti-Valentine's theme.

It’s almost Valentine’s Day, which for some can be a beautiful expression of love, but for others is a day they’d rather forget.

For people in the latter category: Doyle’s Cafe has just the thing for you this weekend.

Doyle’s Cafe will host a story-slam this Sunday with the theme of “betrayal,” according to massmouth, inc., a local non-profit that promotes the art of storytelling.

“We want to get down to the nitty-gritty, we want stories of betrayal; so instead of watching Never Been Kissed for the 24th time come join us and celebrate the darker side of love. Bring your stories of betrayal!” according to a massmouth press release.

The story slam has picked up steam in and around Boston over the past year, with coverage in major local media. According to MassMouth: Modeled after poetry slams, massmouth’s story slams invite storytellers—from experienced performers to first-timers—to share a real-life story in five minutes. Storytellers sign up and 10 are chosen at random to tell their story on the slam's theme. Volunteer judges award prizes based on a story’s narrative arc, presentation and connection to the theme. Judges select first and second place winners and the audience votes for a third. Winners are invited back for the semi-finals in March, where they vie for a spot in the finals.

The “Betrayal” themed story-slam will take place at Doyle’s Café, 3484 Washington St., from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 10.
