When is Spring Yard Waste Collection in Jamaica Plain?

Spring is in full swing, and Jamaica Plain residents may be looking to get rid of leaves and other yard waste built up over the fall and winter months. 

So when is Boston's Spring Yard Waste Collection coming to Jamaica Plain? 

The Boston Public Works Department will collect residents' leaves and yard waste on their normal recycling day from 7 a.m. between Monday, April 28 and Friday, May 23. 

Residents looking to dispose of yard waste should keep in mind the following tips:

• Place leaves and yard debris in large paper leaf bags or open barrels labeled "Yard Waste." No plastic bags will be accepted. "Yard Waste" stickers can be obtained by calling 617-635-4500. 
• Branches should be tied with a string of no longer than 3 feet in length and 1-inch in diameter. Branches should not be placed in barrels or bags. 
• Barrels, bags and branches should be placed on the curbside.

Composting

City residents interested in composting this spring can obtain outdoor compost bins at subsidized rates at the following address:

Compost bins cost $50. A compost bin can be filled with 12 bags of leaves; bin sizes are adjustable. 

A kitchen scrap bucket, which has a handle and lid and holds 7 liters of debris, can be purchased for $10.
