What Can Be Done About Illegal Left Turns on the J-Way?

The Jamaica Pond Association board discussed the trend at a meeting Monday.

On Friday, there was a brutal car crash on the Arborway, one of the narrow, winding roads connected to the Jamaicaway in JP.

While officials have said the crash was caused when one of the cars drifted over the double-yellow line, there’s no question that the roads near the Jamaica Pond can be very dangerous at times.

The Jamaica Pond Association held a discussion Monday about illegal left turns from the Jamaicaway onto Burroughs and other nearby streets.

One Jamaica Pond Association board member observed between 10 and 15 illegal lefts made during three different, 30-minute time periods, according to an email from the association.

What can be done to mitigate these illegal lefts? More signage? Or is a change to the roadway needed? Leave your opinion in the comments.
