Superstorm Sandy: One Year Later

The 2012 storm knocked out power to more than 500,000 Massachusetts and New Hampshire customers.

By Roberto Scalese

A year ago this week, Superstorm Sandy blew through the East Coast. Though the worst damage was in New York and New Jersey, parts of Massachusetts were hard hit as well.

Strong winds brought down trees and power lines throughout the state, knocking out electricity to more than 500,000 Massachusetts and New Hampshire homes and forcing numerous school closings and road closures.

As bas as things were in eastern Massachusetts, things were far worse in western half of the state and Vermont, where flooding took out roads and bridges. The damage was even worse along Long Island, the Connecticut shore, and New Jersey.

Here's a quick look at some of the images that ran on Patch sites from New Jersey to New Hampshire a year ago. For a closer look at the continued recovery effort in New Jersey, click here.
