South Street Gas Main Work to Continue Through October

National Grid is in the process of replacing 800 feet of gas main under South Street.

Those who live on or drive through South Street may have noticed some jackhammers and parking restriction signs in the area lately. The site will likely look much the same come the fall.

National Grid spokesman David Graves told Jamaica Plain Patch that crews are replacing 800 feet of gas main under South Street. The work began in July and will end likely in October.

Graves said the work will go on between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays so as not to disrupt vehicle and foot traffic in the area.

There are also no power or gas outages expected until the final stages of the project when workers will connect new gas lines to the residences and businesses.
