Forest Hills Cemetery Cancels Lantern Festival for 2014

Officials plan to review details and logistics of the annual event.

Officials of the Forest Hills Cemetery in Jamaica Plain have announced that the annual Lantern Festival has been cancelled for this year.

The event has run annually over the last 15 years, and officials said the event has been cancelled as they work to review and examine details and logistics for the event. The Forest Hills Educational Trust, which has helped organize the event, also made an announcement on its website.

The festival itself is derived from Japanese tradition and allows participants to set paper lanterns, lit with candles and decorated with the names of loved ones who have died, down Lake Hibiscus in the cemetery, according to the Jamaica Plain News.
