Dominican Development Center Receives Grant

The Dominican Development Center in Jamaica Plain was awarded $15,000 by the Episcopal City Mission's Burgess Urban Fund.

The Dominican Development Center in Jamaica Plain has received a $15,000 grant from Episcopal City Mission. The Dominican Development Center was one of 20 grassroots organizations to be awarded a Burgess Urban Fund grant.

“We are grateful to have this first and great opportunity to empower Latina Domestic Workers in the movement for women's justice," said Magalis Troncoso, Director & Founder of Dominican Development Center and Founder of the Domestic Workers Coalition of Mass.

"The emerging leaders of our Leadership Grassroots Program will be key in pushing forward The Bill of Rights, a legislation that, if passed, will extend and provide more rights for domestic workers in Massachusetts,” said Troncoso.

Over the past 37 years, the Burgess Urban Fund has awarded more than $6.8 million in grants, focussing on the areas of faith-based organizing, immigrants’ rights, workers’ rights, affordable housing, poverty-related organizing and youth organizing.
