Why go: Sponsored by the, the Franklin Park Coalition, Friends of Jamaica Pond, the Emerald Necklace Bird Club, and Mass Audubon's Boston Nature Center, the Birds and Bards Festival is a weekend-long celebration of birds, poetry, and nature at multiple locations all along the Emerald Necklace. Why go: It’s a kids’ double-header today at the JP Library. Children ages 7-12 and their parents are invited to meet children’s author Karen Romano-Young, the author of “Doodlebug: A Novel in Doodles,” followed by a doodling workshop. Later, children ages 3-6 and their parents will enjoy the bilingual fun as the library commemorates Dia de los Ninos with storytelling, crafts, a book giveaway, and refreshments.

Why go: The Hallway Gallery is presenting a two-day exhibition this weekend. "Artists in Bloom" features art by K-5 students from the local Dever-McCormack School. A reception for the young artists will be held on Sunday.
