A Starbucks in JP? Residents Offer Mixed Opinions

Jamaica Plain Patch readers took to the Facebook page to discuss whether there's a home for Starbucks in Jamaica Plain.

There is no Starbucks coffee shop in Jamaica Plain, and there are no plans in the works to put one here. Though the highly recognizable Seattle-based franchise’s coffee shops can be spotted in nearly every nook and cranny of the United States, you won’t find one in this Boston neighborhood.

And most of the residents want to keep it that way.

Jamaica Plain Patch published a study of where the Starbucks shops are in the local county. On social media, we posed the question: Do you want to see a shop come to Jamaica Plain?

“Why would we want chains to move in? Keep it local!” Ann Williams commented.

“We already have good coffee in JP,” Shawn Holland said.

Some were outraged we even broached the subject.

“No! I can't believe that you would even ask that question. What a slap in the face to our awesome neighborhood coffeehouses and cafes!” Stephanie Golas said.

Though some did say they could see a Starbucks in Jamaica Plain.

“The answer is Yes for me and I'm not moving. I've lived in JP since the 80s. There's room for it all. Just sayin’,” said Michelle Johnson.

Tyler Crosby added: “Now, I don't mind Starbucks, but City Feed, JP Licks, and Caffé Aromi do me just fine.”
