A Curtain Call, A Shopping Spree, Activist Art & More

It's Thursday again, and if you've still got no idea what to do this weekend, our Thursday feature, "Get Out" has ideas for stuff to do and places to go.

Where: The Footlight Club, 7 Eliot Street

When: Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Why go:  This is the last weekend to catch production of the retro rock opera “RENT.”

Where: , 125 Arborway

When:  Saturday, 8 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

Price:  Free but registration is required

Why go:  If you’re an early bird yourself, rise and shine for a bird watching walk with the Arboretum staff.

Where: (The tour begins at Ellicott Arch near the Williams Street entrance.)

When: Saturday, 10 a.m.

Price:  Free

Why go: Sponsored by the Franklin Park Coalition (FPC), this tour is led by Julie Arrison, an author, local historian, and FPC member.

Where:  The event will take place all day at stores throughout JP but the kick-off is at Jackson Square’s  at 12 noon

When:  10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Price:  Free

Why go:  Whether you support Whole Foods or Whose Foods, this is an event that everyone can support.  Residents are encouraged to shop locally at neighborhood grocery stores, markets, and bodegas.  Merchants throughout JP's business districts will offer specials and sales as well as cooking demonstrations and advice.  Participants will receive a "passport," and will be entered in a raffle.

Where: , 179 Amory Street

When: Saturday, 5:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Price:  Free

Why go: Women Transforming Communities present the artwork of acclaimed Filipino artist Emmanuel Garibay.  Other activities include refreshments, a journal workshop, and refreshments.
