Clay and Lindsay Buchholz and Jarrod Saltalamacchia Challenge Boston Media Personalities to Join HomeStart's ICycle in the Fight Against Homelessness

Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz, his wife Lindsay, and former Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia are challenging the Boston media to step up to the plate and show their support for the fight against homelessness by spinning for a good cause. They are throwing out a challenge to local media personalities and others to participate in this year’s outdoor ICycle event on February 27 to benefit HomeStart, a Massachusetts based non-profit organization that provides assistance to individuals and families facing homelessness in the Greater Boston area.

“We are thrilled with the support from Jarrod, Clay and Lindsay Buchholz and their help in getting the media to spin with us,” says Linda Wood-Boyle, President and CEO of HomeStart.  “Every day more and more people in our community are affected by homelessness and while we want people to have fun at ICycle, we also hope they understand the important message behind it—that one or two hours in the cold cannot compare to living without a home.”

The ICycle will also feature some good natured competition between media and sports celebrities.  At 1 p.m. WAAF’s Lyndon Byers, former Boston Bruin and a host on the Hill-Man Morning Show on 97.7/107.3 FM, will return to compete against Jennifer Sciamanna of RCN Boston and her team of cyclists.

The day-long fundraiser will feature spin cycling instructors from Fitness International, an event sponsor, who will lead participants in the outdoor spin classes regardless of weather conditions.  Riders may register, either individually or as teams, to spend an hour or more pedaling for a good cause. Each cyclist is committed to raising $250 per spin hour. Participating cyclists will not only get a great workout from expert instructors, but will also be reminded that one hour in the harsh elements is nothing compared to living without the comfort of a home.

The 7th annual ICycle event will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2014, on the plaza of One International Place in downtown Boston.  Hourly fundraising spin sessions will run from 6:00 a.m. until 6 p.m. Follow the event on Twitter #icycle2014
