The building at 350 South Huntington Avenue originally housed the Perkins School for the Blind. It was later transformed in 1976  into a shared facility for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) and the Angell Memorial Animal Hospital. Now known collectively as the MSPCA-Angell, it is one of the top animal hospitals in the country, providing world-class care, facilities and services to a wide variety of pets and service animals. The organization provides care for thousands of animals every year through the assistnace of the Helen Schmidt Stanton Clinical Care Center (providing services from preventative medicine to critical care) and the Copeland Animal Care and Adoption Center. Grooming and boarding are services recently added to the impressive facility.
