Join local Jamaica Plain author Susan Naimark for a provocative and engaging talk about her new book "The Education of a White Parent," which details her experiences with race and privilege as a parent of two children in the Boston Public School system. Ms. Naimark was appointed to the Boston School Committee by Mayor Tom Menino, and served from 1997 to 2005. She currently works as an independent consultant with public school parents, grassroot groups, and nonprofit and public agencies to create responsive community institutions.

The Connolly Branch of the Boston Public Library boasts a collection of more than 40,000 items, with nearly half of them in Spanish.
"Spanish is what we're known for," says Jane Bickford, the branch librarian.
The library is housed in a 1932 building that has been restored to near original condition. The 20-plus foot plaster ceiling of the main room is decorated with rosettes and geometric patterns.
In addition to the collections and resources, the branch has a 150-person lecture hall. There is a stage and sound system. Non-profit organizations are welcome to use the space by arrangement with the librarian. For-profit groups may rent the hall after hours.
